Air admittance valves are one of the most important elements of the sewer system. They are necessary for air exchange in the sewer and for the stable operation of the siphons of sanitary appliances.

The absence of ventilation valves (aerators) leads to the fact that when a large amount of water is drained, air will be drawn inward, creating a negative pressure, which will lead to air being drawn out, and with it water, through the sink siphon, since it has the smallest water seal height. As a result, there is a “breakdown of the hydraulic seal” - when water is lost from the siphon elbow, sewer fumes begin to enter the room.
