For the practice of construction a shortening ratio 1:1.5 is actual. When reducing the distances A and B at 1 cm (both changed the same way) the elbow should be shortened at 1.5 cm.

In this case, actual is a shortening ratio of 1:1. Distance A changes to the same extent as the shortening of the elbow. Dimensional tolerances for the distance B which theoretically can be obtained from the gradient, for practical installation works have no value.
